Pit Spittin Results
The Choke Cherry festival at Pequot Lakes was held Saturday, August 13, and many prizes were awarded to participants young and old who could spit the pit of a Choke Cherry the furthest. Contestants came from as far away as South Dakota to compete along with locals and visitors from the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.
Winners like Jace Fipp-Rosenfield from Minneapolis, age 11, spit a pit a whopping 21’8”! He was a bigger winner along with adult Susan Arntz from Waconia spit a respectable 11’10 in the first hour of the competition. In the second round of competition, another woman competitor, Angie Hanson, stepped up the competition with a distance of 23’5” and her son Gabe, age 9, spit a pit 15’ to win along with Tom Martin, age 12, from Savage, spit 19’5”! Not to be outdone, local Shannon Swenson age 10 spit her pit 12’10, and Michael Schneider, age 15 from Coon Rapids, spit 22’2” .
In the third round, Megan Ament from Nisswa, age 12, spit 23”!!
Levi and Sonja Palmer from Pequot Lakes showed their prowess – Levi, age 13, spit a pit 13’6 feet and sister Sonja, age 8, spit her pit 8’. Cheyenne Bryan, age 8, squeaked past Sonja at 8’11”.
All in all 48 people competed and fun and a Choke Cherry taste were had by all!
